Introduction of Microwave Kiln

Existing household microwave ovens are generally used for cooking food in household kitchens, and few are used for firing ceramic crafts. Since the domestic microwave oven is designed for cooking food, the use temperature does not exceed 300°C, and the firing of ceramic crafts requires a high temperature of 800°C to 1200°C. Direct use of a micro furnace cannot withstand such a high temperature.

The maximum internal diameter of the microwave kiln is about 80mm, and the internal height is about 100mm. The external dimensions of the microwave kiln: the outer diameter is 120mm, and the outer height is 130mm.

A microwave kiln can make small cups and bowls. If it is larger than this size, an electric kiln is required. The outer layer of the microwave kiln is made of ceramic fiber, which is composed of alumina and silica instead of asbestos.

The traditional firing of ceramic crafts is made in an electric furnace or a special kiln, but the electric furnace and the special kiln take a long time to heat up and consume a lot of energy. The microwave kiln developed by Eazao uses a combination of high-quality heat-resistant thermal insulation material ceramic fiber and high-temperature absorbing material silicon carbide to easily solve the problem of firing ceramic crafts in household microwave ovens. The composition of ceramic fiber is alumina and silica instead of asbestos.

Principle of microwave kiln: microwave penetrates the outer wall of the microwave kiln, and the microwave is converted into heat on the microwave absorbing material on the inner cavity wall, so that the temperature of the inner cavity of the microwave kiln rises, and the inner cavity wall of the microwave kiln is insulated And high temperature resistant, so that the temperature of the inner cavity of the microwave kiln continues to rise, reaching the temperature of firing ceramic handicrafts, completing the firing process.

How to use: When using the microwave kiln, put the ceramic 3D printed cup in the microwave kiln, put the entire microwave kiln into the microwave oven with a power of 700w or more (Microwave output power), adjust the microwave power to the maximum level, start the microwave, 35 minutes after that, the temperature of the inner cavity of the microwave kiln is increased to 1000-1100°C, at which the ceramic 3D printed cup can be fired. When the temperature of the outer wall of the microwave kiln is lowered to below 50°C, wear heat-insulating gloves to The microwave kiln is taken out of the microwave oven, and after natural cooling, the sample is fired.

How big is the microwave kiln? Do I have to glaze my project before putting it in the kiln, or can I choose the color later? Does it have to be 3D printed clay? Can I just buy the clay and make it by hand?

      Hi, Paige.
1.The maximum internal diameter of the microwave kiln is about 80mm, and the internal height is about 100mm.
2.It is not necessary to glaze the print before putting it into the microwave kiln, and it can be fired directly.
3.We have already launched 4 glazes, and we will develop more glazes in the future.
4.We have no restrictions on the materials, you can buy them directly from the local pottery studio and prepare them according to the methods we provide:

The instructions above indicate a 1500W microwave which is significantly higher than UK domestic models which typically max out at 1000W (1500W being more commercial models). Is it possible to use a lower wattage microwave effectively?

    • Jony says:

We want to shorten the sintering time as much as possible, the greater the power, the shorter the sintering time. In actual operation, it only takes 20 minutes for the ceramic parts to harden and become firm. Firing in a microwave oven for 35 minutes can make the ceramics stronger. If the microwave oven is at low power, the sintering time needs to be lengthened.

Hi, What are the external dimensions of the kiln please….. so we can know which microwave ovens will fit it. Thanks.

Is there anything special about the glaze – I assume it is the lowest cone value?
Could other colours of the same value also be used? Thanks for putting together this impressive package!
